Nicholas Sironka Unveils "Celebrating the Soul of Blues"
August art show at Shotgun Studios Spokane
Renowned batik artist Nicholas Sironka is set to captivate art enthusiasts with his latest collection, Celebrating the Soul of Blues, on display throughout August at Shotgun Studios Spokane. This highly anticipated exhibition marks a significant artistic evolution for Sironka as he transitions from his signature batik creations to vibrant acrylic paintings on canvas, focusing on the powerful imagery of blues musicians.

Drug and alcohol-free event featuring live blues music by duo John and Monique Dingeldein. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to meet Sironka and experience his new body of work firsthand.
About the Collection
Sironka, known for intricate and colorful batik art, now brings his dynamic vision to acrylics. His new paintings burst with energy, capturing the raw emotion and soulful essence of blues legends. About Nicholas Sironka
Nicholas Sironka is a Spokane artist and American citizen born in Kenya and known internationally for his vibrant and evocative batik art on fabric of the Maasai culture. With a career spanning decades, Sironka has consistently pushed the boundaries of his craft, exploring diverse themes and mediums. His move to acrylic on canvas for "Celebrating the Soul of Blues" represents an exciting new chapter in his artistic expression. As a licensed drug and alcohol counselor with a Spokane treatment agency his heart’s work is with individuals in their recovery journey from addiction.

Shotgun Studios Spokane is excited to announce an exhibition of 30 works on paper by BobLloyd that will be shown from October 11 - November 28, 2024. “Art, Science or Forensics" is not just an exhibition but a catalyst for conversation. It invites participants to transcend the 'us versus them' mentality and to envision a world where differences are celebrated rather than feared. Through a blend of artistic expression, scientific exploration, and forensic scrutiny, it seeks to inspire both individual introspection and collective action towards a more unified and equitable society.

“This exhibition invites viewers on a journey through the intricate tapestry of human experience, as seen through the lenses of creativity, empirical analysis, and societal critique. It challenges the audience to question the lines drawn between different cultural and social groups, while exploring the potential for harmony and understanding.” Artist statement by Robert Lloyd.
Mr. Lloyd is a graduate of the California Institute of the Arts, completing an MFA in Design and Photography. In 1974 he began teaching photography, and later digital imaging, at Eastern Washington University where he supported the Chicano Education Program, Black Studies programs, Women’s Studies and the Native American program. He retired in 2004 after 30 years
He founded, directed, and curated two photography galleries – The Grand Photography Gallery at Eastern Washington University and The Lloyd Gallery at 123 Arts. He currently curates exhibits for several galleries in Spokane. He has always advocated for multicultural and international education through his selection of artists and themes. His work “If You Really Knew Me”, an exhibit about women survivors, is on permanent display at the Martin Luther King Community Center. He is in the permeant collection of the Jundt Art Museum and has exhibited nationally and locally for fifty years.
From 1996-2000 Bob founded and published a community newspaper, the Spokane African American Voice. He has served on the board of the Black Lens News and is a contributing author and photographer. He was a member of the Spokane Human Rights Commission, the Task Force on Race Relations, the NAACP and other civic organizations.
Shotgun Studios Spokane is a gallery located in a renovated Shotgun building located in Peaceful Valley along the Spokane River near downtown Spokane.

Spokane, WA — September 2024 — Shotgun Studios is excited to announce the opening of its latest exhibition, "International Surrealism in America," a captivating art show that brings together a diverse collection of Surrealist works from around the world.. The exhibition will run from September to October, offering a unique glimpse into the global impact of Surrealism and its continued relevance in contemporary art.
"International Surrealism in America" features an eclectic array of works, including paintings and sculptures that highlight the movement's ability to transcend cultural boundaries and inspire artists across continents. This exhibition showcases the works of renowned international Surrealists who have made significant contributions to the international art scenes.
From European, to South American masters, the exhibition reveals the universal appeal of Surrealism and its power to challenge reality and spark the imagination. Featured artists include - Spokane artist Roch Fautch, Portuguese artist Santiago Ribeiro, whose works embody the essence of Surrealism while reflecting the unique cultural influences of their respective homelands.
We are honored to present this collection of international Surrealist art that has found a new context and meaning in America. Each piece in this show tells a story of cultural exchange and creative evolution, inviting viewers to explore the limitless possibilities of the surreal.
In addition to the art on display, "International Surrealism in America" will feature a dynamic program of events, including the reveal of John Thamm’s “Big Shot” sculpture, with artist discussion. As well as “Art Meets Comedy” on Friday, September 27th, where local comedians take a crack at the artwork for your enjoyment. These events are free and open to the public.
