      <image:title>John Thamm - John Thamm https://jthamm.com</image:title>
<image:caption>Born in Wendell, Idaho, John grew up in Spokane, WA and received his BFA and MFA from the University of Idaho. He moved on to New York City with a Ford Foundation scholarship to the Art Students League and studied portraiture with S. Edward Oppenheim. He owned a gallery in Greenwich Village where he met his mentor and friend Jack Levine. In 1978, John returned to Spokane and was an art instructor with the Community Colleges of Spokane. He became friends with one of his students, Bob Ross, who was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base. They would paint together at John’s studio in Peaceful Valley. Bob was fascinated by John’s portrait technique that he called the “Wipe-Out” method. Later when Bob had launched his “Joy of Painting” series on PBS, he filmed two instructional videos featuring John and his portrait technique. Those videos can still be purchased from the Bob Ross Company. After Bob’s death in 1995, the Bob Ross Company invited John to teach his portrait technique in the United States and Holland. Years later he also offered workshops for the Farbi Flora Company in Berlin, Germany. John was a courtroom sketch artist for TV and newspaper media including CNN, ABC, AP, KREM TV, KXLY TV and the Spokesman Review. Notable trials he has covered were Ruby Ridge, the Branch Davidian-Waco Trial, and the Aryan Nations trial in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. John’s portrait of the lawyer, Gerry Spence, is in the attorney’s private art collection. John’s first book, published in June 2010 “ Vets: Fifty Portraits of Veterans and Their Stories”features area servicemen and women from every branch of the armed forces who fought in wars from World War II-Iraq. John set up an easel in the lobby of the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center and painted the veteran’s portraits and recorded their stories. The show of the paintings was featured at the VA Medical Center and on the PBS affiliate KSPS Northwest Profiles. In 2016, John started painting the Republican candidates during the Presidential election debates. The first piece was of Donald Trump called “Bark, Smirk, and Pucker”. He displayed the piece in his gallery in Bisbee and had such amazing response to the painting that he decided to paint all the candidates and expanded to Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Jill Stein and Gary Johnson. He launched the show called “CHOICE ?” at his gallery in Bisbee and at the Kolva-Sullivan Gallery in Spokane, WA. Then John decided to paint all of the Presidents in vivid color and by Fall 2017 launched “The Presidential Collection” at his gallery in Bisbee. The public’s response to the pieces has been so positive that John will release a book of “The Presidential Collection” with quotes by each president by the summer of 2018.</image:caption>

Coming from a family of creatives, his earliest memories include seeing his first Dali painting, at age 4, and knew this would be his life's work. While mostly self taught, with an insatiable curiosity and the passion that drives him, he has spent his entire life absorbing everything in his path and applying it creatively. With each new skill set, from mold building, fiberglass and concrete construction has added to his over all artistic potential. Today he is known worldwide for his concrete sculpture and as a Surrealist painter. He is currently a member of the International Surrealist Group, Eurasion Art Union and the Visionary Artist Society.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Jesse Swanson - Jesse Swanson</image:title>
<image:caption>Jesse Swanson is a photographer and print expert who enjoys art, culture and nature. He can talk for hours about poetry, books, films, lectures, art and backpacking excursions that have made an impression on him in one way or another. He hopes to make an impression on others through his own work. “If I had a mission statement it would be that I want to give people hopeful, thoughtful introspection on life and the environment. As conscientious human beings I want to help us understand our relationship to each other and our environment,” he said. “We have the tools and resources to make the entire world a utopia, and maybe photography can help inch us forward in that direction.” Swanson, 25, grew up in Spokane Valley and attended University High School where photography piqued his interest. He went on to study the craft at Spokane Falls Community College. After graduating in 2009, he walked into Ink to Media, a print shop and gallery in Spokane Valley and offered his services as an intern in exchange for free prints of his photos and on-the-job education and experience. Now, he is an employee. An avid backpacker, Swanson has hiked many miles to capture panoramic photographs and scenic landscapes including shots taken of and from Three Fingers Lookout, a rough cabin on top of a steep rock in Snoqualmie National Forest. His work captures beauty rarely seen and often overlooked from off-the-beaten-path to more conceptual, digital compositions that combine multiple photographs to create narrative images. Swanson loves bringing a sense of peace and awe to others and hopes that his work will bring them closer to the world around them. Conserving beauty is also very important to Swanson; he has worked with Earth Day Spokane and the Lands Council, photographing threatened natural areas. “The power of the photo is its ability to speak to the viewer and say a million things without a word,” he said. “Photos can convey meaning, insight, and introspection. They can comment on issues, highlight problems, or show the true beauty of a far off place you wish you could be.”</image:caption>

Rick's childhood experiences working with his auto mechanic dad in their garage in Orange County gave him a lifelong love for making things work. Inspired by the practical and the spiritual, Rick incorporates his Celtic roots, his yoga practice, and his appreciation for Native American culture into his work. Upon relocating near the Little Spokane river in 2005, the area’s wildlife added yet another creative spark to his work. Rick has found Spokane to be a great place to raise a family and create his art.</image:caption>

<image:caption>My artwork uses bright colors and high contrast to deliver imagery representative of historical figures, political movements, and culture. Predominantly painting portraits of people I think the history books have forgotten or whose stories have never been told, I use a style of painting poured straight from my brain. My vision as an artist and activist is to create art for the people, and so my style blends elements of fauvism, graffiti, and other aspects of contemporary art to make social commentary about justice, freedom and sovereignty, and the fight against oppression worldwide. In doing so, I introduce my audience to important figures and imagery, both past and present, who stand for similar values. My method is to mix not only styles, but types of paint as well, including acrylic, water color, and spray paint, on one canvas to deliver the boldest piece of artwork possible. Through use of visually striking colors and images, I hope to share a piece of me, my values, and my culture with my audience.</image:caption>

He’s always either carving, painting, or writing poetry. He carves surrealist scenes into salvaged hardwood, creating beautiful mantelpieces, 3D sculptures, and walking staffs that are actually fine art. All of his work is done by hand with a mallet and chisel, and straight from his eye to his hands. Hank is currently fighting cancer and has taken to painting watercolors on paper. He uses lots of vibrant color in his surrealist “dancing buildings” series.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Audreana Camm - Audreana Camm</image:title>
<image:caption>Originally from a remote town in the mountains of Idaho, Audreana journeyed to Spokane as a young adult with the intention of becoming an artist. A prolific creator, for over a decade she has publicly displayed and sold her work through first Friday shows all over town, even releasing multiple new series per year. She has also worked diligently since 2014 teaching public art classes at pinots palette by night, sharing her love of creating with others. “That part of my art life is really half creating, and half performance art. It’s a paint and sip, so I’m on stage almost every night in front of 50 or so people who have never painted. I mix in a fair amount of stand up comedy. People begin nervous and you tell a little joke it creates a sense of levity. By the end of the class they see the value in what they made, and people who maybe have never considered making art are walking now away with something they find meaningful. Maybe they realize the challenge creators face more and become people who invest in local art and the lives of artists. “ Her own acrylic paintings are very different. Most of them are deeply personal surrealist dreamscapes that are inspired by her strange dreams and sleep paralysis experiences .” I see them as messages from the ether, or the spiritual realm if you will, sent to my subconscious's I like to try to bring them to life to share. It has been interesting hearing others interpretations of the art work. It makes me feel connected to people even more; which for me is the point of art, connection, and self expression. There is art in all things.”</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Gallery - Shotgun Studios - A Brief History</image:title>
<image:caption>This historical Shotgun style building is located in Peaceful Valley along the south bank of the Spokane River. It was built by Finnish carpenters in 1901 and served lumber and mining laborers when they would come to the city. It was designed as a rooming house with four separate rooms, each with a door, a bed , and a sink and common toilet at the rear of the building. Each room had a corresponding shed on the property for them to store their personal belongings. The building was remodeled in the 80’s to a one bedroom house. In 2018 John decided to add on to the original building keeping the 12/12 roof line and a wider Shotgun design. The intent was to keep the narrow look of the shotgun design when viewed from Water Ave. Jesse Swanson and Roch Fautch https://magicraftsman.com were the builders on this project and added modern touches to the interior of the building, including a stone arch to merge the new to the old building. The space is a work of art. The Thamm’s live at Shotgun Studios and open their living room periodically to share the work of artists in the region in addition to sharing the building design. Shotgun Studios is a unique tribute to art and design that maintains the historical look of the original building and compliments the unique building and history of Peaceful Valley.</image:caption>
